MINTERNE ANTIQUES, FINE ART & INTERIORS FAIR
9-11 October, 2009
Minterne House, Minterne Magna, Dorset.
In the heart of the West of England Antique Dealers’ Association area in Dorset, the members second Antiques, Fine Art and Interiors Fair was held at Minterne House, Minterne Magna from 9-11 October, by kind permission of The Hon Henry and Mrs Digby and organised for the association by Cooper Events. The fair was extremely busy on every day and exceeded all expectations for a new venue. The sparking Gala Evening in aid of the Marie Curie Cancer Charity was a wonderful success and enjoyed by a very large number of Dorset society.

The fair is organised to promote WEADA and members were particularly delighted to be staging their annual fair at Minterne House, a charming private residence that is usually open only to private parties. Commenting on behalf of the association, Martin Dearden of Pennard House Antiques, Shepton Mallet, said: "I was excited to find a house with so much charm and character that is not permanently open to the public and that will be ideal for our fair"
Subscription to the fair at this new venue was brisk with forty-seven dealers, some of whom were invited outside the association. The attendance at the fair exceeded all expectations with the Gala Charity Evening in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Charity, being particularly well attended

Visitors were delighted to find such a wide variety of formal period and decorative antique furniture on sale together with the best of Oriental carpets, ceramics, paintings, jewellery, scultpure, Japanese ceramics and collectible pieces, rare collectors watches, antique postboxes and scientific collectors items and some unusual items from a new WEADA member for 2010 Paul Drewett who specialises in marine antiques - model yachts and associated nautical ephemera. These item proved very popular. French provincial furniture was well represented by Pennard House Antiques, Jan Hicks and Alston and Ashton with Welsh country furniture on display from Michael Chugg Antiques who also had a rare 19thc painted toleware shower on his stand . Specialist Art Deco dealers Gazelles were delighted with a number of very good sales and lots of interest on their stand. WEADA member Quillon House Antiques enjoyed excellent sales particularly on the first day when they sold a number of key pieces including a rare Spanish walnut centre table. Jewellery dealers S and A Thompson of Cornwall were delighted with their jewellery and silver sales at the fair as were Brieve Antiques of Clywd.

There were many other notable sales at the fair, including a Lowry drawing sold by Neptune Fine Art for a figure in excess of £40,000, Muse sold three contemporary sculptures, Kenulph Fine Art were pleased with their sales. Two more WEADA members fared very well at Minterne - Guy Denler was pleased to sell a period chest on chest for a figure in excess of £20,000 among other pieces of period furniture and Domani also had a very good fair and sold a very good kneehole desk and continued well selling on every day of the fair. Chairman Patrick Mactinosh of Courtyard Antiques was delighted to sell a number of pieces from his collection of fine Country House furniture including a very good upholstered sofa to visiting London trade. Patrick also enjoyed a number of sales after the fair from new clients he met at Minterne.
The exhibitors all agreed that the fair was very well organised by Sue Ede and her team from Cooper Events and the venue was a delightful place to exhibit at.
